Research and Commercialisation
ELS is actively involved in exploring the commercialisation opportunities that can be associated with its research. For example:
- Biotrack Australia® the spin-off company of the Division’s Centre for Biodiversity and Bioresources, uses the knowledge of biodiversity to assist in informing environmental management decision-makers. Projects vary from the study of Tsetse Fly Control in Botswana to monitoring for stream restoration in the University’s back-yard at Ryde.
- FLUOROtechnics® was incorporated in December 2001, as a spin off company from Macquarie University. The FLUOROtechnics Research Team, developed by Macquarie is one of the world’s leading research teams in the area of fluorescent labeling and detection. Their core discovery will enable the development of numerous labeling and analysis products for the different market segments of the biotechnology industry.
- ELS is also home to the Australian Proteome Analysis Facility (APAF). APAF was established in 1995 under the Australian Government's Major National Research Facility program, and was the first dedicated proteome centre established in the world. Macquarie researchers developed the concept of proteomics and have remained at the forefront of technology development in this field.
