Training

Specific training courses are available, which are open to students and staff. Some are required to be undertaken before certain types of work can be started. Funding for these courses will need to be arranged, so please consult your Course convenor, Supervisor or OH&S representatives. Courses might include Senior first aid, Remote area first aid, 4WD driver training, Chemical handling and safety.

Chemical Safety

Guidelines:

MSDS: Material Safety Data Sheets are available via Crown Scientific, please remember to ask your supplier when ordering chemicals.

Biosafety

Our Division has three PC2 labs: E8A109, E8C323 (belongs to APAF) and Glasshouse F5A413. Occupants need to be approved by the Biosafety Committee and attend a workshop that runs annually. An AQIS approved PC2 laboratory is located in E8A. Access to these areas is strictly controlled. Please contact Elsa Mardones on phone ext. 8233.

Fieldwork

Vehicle use: Biological Sciences, Earth and Planetary Sciences, and Physical Geography have a range of 2 and 4WD vehicles. Booking procedures between Departments vary, so contact your respective departmental technical support personnel for access.

Division Forms: It is mandatory that before undertaking any course or research related fieldwork that the appropriate Risk Assessment forms are filled out and approved by your Supervisor, Fieldwork Manager or Head of Department. These forms are listed and can be accessed here.
